Default Water pressure switch

87 five speed, got a coolant level warning light tonight, stop and added fluid. Found that the water pressure switch in the line just a few inches from the expansion tank had split in half. So looking at the engine parts see the part 928 641 513 00 but it also shows a simple tube that could go in the same place. This tube connects the top of the radiator to the expansion tank, so would it be an issue to just go with the connector and delete the switch?

Go right ahead. The main purpose of that switch is to spring a leak after 20+ years.

The Official Porsche part is exactly the same as a brass double-ended barbed hose connector you can buy at any good hardware store except that the Porsche part will be made of an inferior material.

Disconnect the connector and fit a hose connector works fine. The pressure switch is part of a coolant level check logic. Regardless of the coolant level on a warm engine the low coolant level warning will stay on, if you don't open the expansion tank. Only when the system is depressurized, the logic will acknowledge the fluid level. This way Porsche wanted people to really check the coolant and add, if necessary.

Thanks, at 20 years it does not spring a leak, it pops in two!

… thereby leaking.

Spontaneous self-disassembly (pyrotechnic or otherwise) is simply a specific subset of the failure mode set “leak.”

Dave,
I laughed and laughed at these responses. Absolutely right on the mark as always
