So what do you think a pair ready to cover 'Feather Panels' in ABS will set us back?

One thing to think of as you are redesigning this is reinforcing the screw holes at the tail and midsections. These tend to be weak points because of the tension required to make the bends from the console to the tunnel. I used screws with wider captive washers to better hold the shape, but a reinforcing eyelet would be an option as well.

Do you have some prototypes for the airbag dash yet? I am curious if you will be re-using the molded ABS curve to the glovebox

Oddly enough, my design plan has already included a couple of things that relate to the mounting holes, and that is that I am going to extend the bottom edge about a quarter of an inch and then bevel it about 30 degrees or so to help stiffen it. Along with that I have been thinking about gluing some ABS strips along the back side just over or at the bevel to strengthen the mounting holes and to help to stiffen the bottom edges.

Edit: Of course, Michael, I intend to form these panels so that they fit the shape needed to accommodate the different locations where they mount so that there no longer is the tension on the panel to meet the different locations.

Shawn, I don't yet have a very good idea just what it is going to take to produce a pair of these, or just what a pair is going to amount to, for that matter.

PM sent.

No, nothing yet. I am kind of curious, however, about what you mean by "molded ABS curve to the glovebox" since I don't have a panel out of either of my airbag cars yet. Does anyone have such a panel or panels to picture about this?

Here are a set of console side panels from my '93, with the riveted on 'flare' on the passenger side.

I forgot how much different the GTS side panels are compared to the earlier machines

Thanks, Rob, for the great picture. That shows a lot. However, I wonder if you could stand one or both of the passenger panels up on their bottom edge and take a picture of them from above so I can see just about how deeply they are formed at the top and how the top edge is finished.

Never mind. I will take one of mine out. I thought yours might still be out of the car. Although there are two of the passenger panels in your picture. Are they both in cars?

I have a small pressure former if that helps:

Mayku | Multiplier

Can also pull the cover on the 93 when I get back on SITM and scan that flare for you.

Just shoot me a note if either are helpful.

Thanks all of you for your contributions, suggestions and offers. Right now, I am in touch with Mark A. and he has a couple of the GTS right side Covers that I hope to buy from him. That will take care of all that I will need for patterning a new one. It appears much deeper than I had hoped it might be, but I think I can develop the tooling to form one. Mine will not have a riveted-on attachment, but rather the whole panel will likely be formed as one piece.

This project is developing into something serious and very worthwhile for the whole fleet. I hope that I can bring it to life

If they're anything like your battery, they'll be 'must haves'.

Can I suggest the interior rear quarters as your next project?
