1982 Headlight Motor Wiring and Motor mounting
So, Im pretty sure Ive read every thread twice on headlight motor wiring and what was posted did not work for my 1982 Coupe so I thought I would post what I experienced. My PO had disconnected all but one wire from the motor. This at least allowed the headlights to come on but left me clueless as to which of the remaining 3 disconnected wires went where. I found the post with the 928intl catalogue page that had
1=brown/red
2=white/black
3=yellow/green
4=red/black
This allowed the motor to work but the light was out of sync. With the light switch off the lights were down but the lights still on (high beams worked as they should in this state as well). When I turned the lights on the lights would pop up and then turn off. So I found another post that suggest their car had this:
1=white/black
2=brown/red
3=yellow/green
4=red/black
This worked for my 1982! When I flipped the switch on, the lights popped up and turned on when they reached the top. When i turned the lights off they came down and turned off.
Now for a quick question about the mounting of the headlight motor. It has slots in the mounting for adjusting the height. The bolts that were in mine were too long as far as I could tell and would never get tight as they bottomed out in the hole. So I put some washers on there and that allowed me to get them tight. My car had some front end damage that really has screwed up the travel of the headlights so I've been killing myself trying to get the linkage working and traveling as it should, and as I tried to adjust the height of the motor I quickly realized that it only goes one direction and so it seemed pretty important to me that the linkage hit its top and bottom point as the motor goes over center so the motor is not fighting the bracket stops at some point in the travel. Then, I started wondering. Is the motor mount supposed to remain loose so it can float in the slots and keep from over-stressing the motor if the linkage hits the stop prior to the motor going over center?

under each of the fenders are 2 lamp stops they used to have rubber nubbers on them,
these are adjustable.
That HL motor should be fastened securely.
