Hi,
My option code sticker is AWOL and I'm wondering how to tell which kind of shock my car came with originally. Then I'd like to know which stiffer shock would suit as an upgrade path.
I searched the board, no luck.
Thanks in advance
Thaddeus

read the name stamped on the body of the shock very near the bottom , rears are easier to see . They should be Boge if original . Your replacement choices are Boge , Bilstein or Koni although Koni's were never an original option and the Bilstein option was rare . My personal preference is to upgrade to the Eibach progressive springs since it is the springs job to hold up the car and resist body roll etc. then use the Bilstein high pressure gas shocks to control dampen the movement of the springs .

One sure way.....
Go out and clean one off and look for manufacture names and P/Ns. Also notice the outside paint color of the shock. On later cars.....'87 and above sport shock option came with red Boge shocks, while "normal" versions were kind of a light grey color if I'm not mistaken. Sport shock option on very early cars meant Bilsteins. Don't know what the changeover year was though.

Yep - on the bottom of the shock - Right below the threads.
My 84 Has Bilsteins and my 85 has Boge. Needless to say, the PO set up my 84 very well. Stiff as a board and I'm not kidding.
