Default Rough idling & running rich - 928 1982 US

Hi,

My dear beloved has started acting strange - running extremely rough & not reving above 3k RPMS. This is the 3rd time it happened and seems like it’s not going away by itself. Previously it somehow ‘solved’ itself.

My plan is to go through all the ignition wiring, replace the coil, replace the fuel pressure regulator (I see a lot of bubbles in the fuel line), check MAF, O2 sensor etc.

I am in the process of checking the plugs and found this mysterious disconnected wire that seems to go all the way from passenger side. Should it be plugged in to this old style heavy duty 12v fuse? What’s its function?

Thanks!

A little update & what I found out over the past couple of days:
- the car runs only on 4 cylinders; 1, 2, 5 & 6 are not firing
- the respective fuel injectors get current
- i dropped the fuel rails & injectors for cleaning & refurbishing. Only one of them was clogged & leaking so after putting everything back together the issue persists
- fuel pressure damper is definitely broken and sipping fuel to the intake - waiting for a new part
- my battery is also kinda dead - had to jump it twice over the last couple of days while trying to fix it

any ideas? I am starting to lose my mind

1982 USA 4.5L L-Jet
FPG failed is not going to help.
Did you pull a vacuum on the other two dampers?
Charge the battery or get a new one.
Did you check for spark on the relevant spark plugs?
Are the spark plug wires cracked/poor condition?
Check the distributor cap.

For some reason the text in my previous post didn’t load correctly, so here it is:

The distributor cap seems fine, I installed it less than 4 months ago. The rotor had a small cavity but upon further inspection it was just a little dirty on the tip. The green wire however literally broke down when I tried to disconnect it to clean the connections.

Cleaned everything & put it back together. No change + the battery died on me again.

I assume that there is no reason to check other elements before replacing the green wire?

Thank you

you need to order a new Bosch green wire.
NOTE stay away from the URO version as its not the best quality or configuration\

Already on its way, thanks. I also just established that MAF is NOT one of the culprits. After disconnecting the connector the car basically dies without pressing the throttle.
