Smile Operation Hat Trick Complete

As of 1 p.m. this afternoon, I'm the happy owner of all 3 Porsche models available in the US for 1983: the 911, the 944 and the 928! I picked up the car in Rhode Island and as I write this, I'm about 200 miles into the 1000-mile trip back to Chicago. The car is cosmetically outstanding as far as the interior and exterior., though the engine bay could be cleaner. No records on the timing belt, so I'll jump on that as soon as I get home: the seller was nice enough to come down on his asking price ($8000) when I explained how important this was; he's owned the car 3 years and has no idea when it was done. The car is an auto, 72k miles, and ran me $7200.

No 20 year-old car is without issues, of course: owner reports the window switches are intermittent, that the radio cuts out, and the steering has a slight shimmy at 70 mph or so. I haven't encountered the problem with the windows or radio, and the shimmy is apparently because he had the fronts replaced and the shop didn't balance the wheels - there are no weights on them.

What I've noticed is the driver's side visor has a broken clip, as does the shelf above the pedals on that side. There's a small triangle of black plastic (window guide?) that's missing on the driver's side as well. AC, Heat, cruise, seats, sunroof, wipers, washers, power locks, odometer and speedometer all work. No rips or tears anywhere in the interior, carpet is good, one ding on driver's door. The car came with the original owners and service manuals as well. Hopefully, the picture is attached below. And I always promised myself I'd become a member when I found the last car, so the forms are in as of 10 minutes ago.

Edit:Picture didn't work, I linked it in.

Looks nice, Emanuel.

Check the backs for weights or the inside for tape weights. Better shops will try to use those.

Now doncha need to go world-wide and get a 924 turbo?

WOW!!! This looks and sounds nice! Apparently the car is unmolested and just needs some TLC to get up to standard again. The visor clips, window triangle, and other things are all not major. Too funny, though, that someone would put tires on without balancing the wheels...

The front license plate is a newer Euro plate from Berlin. I hope people won't read it as "Bull - S"omething...

Please do post more pictures, indlucing the interior.

Congratulations on your completed collection! You are the "1983 Man"...

The rears have the weights on the outside, so I doubt they did the fronts differently, but it's something to check - thanks.

As for going world-wide, that opens the field up way too much. I'm happy with these - 3 Porsches for less than a new Mini Cooper S or 3-series. Ironically, from my hotel window I can see 2 boys playing catch right next to it in the parking lot, despite one section of the lot being completely empty not 20 feet away. Gee, I'd hate to have to murder a couple of kids on one of the happiest days I've had this year

The PO was very pleased about having that plate sent over and offered it to me, but I told him he should keep it as a souvenir. He hadn't thought to keep anything from the car and was excited about the idea of having it in the den. I happened to take the pic before we removed it. Rather than hassle with trying to get temp plates on a Saturday, I brought the IL plates from my 944. Figure if anyone stops me, the plates still show as registered to me for a red 1983 Porsche, so I figure I can BS that some clerk got the model number wrong.
