I agree with Bill, even if the crank does a little grinding against the block, as long as new main bearings and thrust bearings fit tight the block can be reused. A complete rebuild is in order and a new crankshaft may be needed, but no need to toss the block.

They are repairing those blocks here in Australia. They weld them up, that Reynolds stuff welds beautifully. Then a very light skim on the ladder and block. The block will be line bored later. The groove in the thrust bearing is put back in if nessasary by a die grinder. That part may not look so perfect but does what it needs to. N.B. that may not be required depending on the level of damage. The area where the trust bearing sits( this was the area chewed out) is then machined and finally a very minimal amount is taken from the faces and a line boring is done.
Also I've heard of people repairing them with Belzona, I'm not sure about the spelling but apparently that stuff doesn't come off.
