Try a PM to Hans here. His username is hans14914. I don't think he spends much time here, however. If you don't get a reply in a week or so, PM me.

You have an 86.5 correct? If so you have the later suspenson with 10mm of offset for (scrub) built in to the spindle with the OE wheel offset of ET65. The 7x17 ET55 will use up of all that 10mm and you will be left with ZERO scrub. There are implciatons of havng Zero scrub on a street car. You may find the drivng experience to be a bit vague on center, tend to wander and lack feel when off center. To what degree will be somewhat tire dependant. Personally...I've driven 928's wth this setup on UHP tres and I tend to not like it. Others think it's fine. Panamera wheels wth the ET 59 are a better choice.

The earlier suspension has 14mm of offset for scrub built in the the spindle and that could work OK becasue it leaves the bare min of 4mm of scrub distance. Just a data point with no relavance in your case but is does explain why those with early cars report no ill effects from an ET55 wheel.

This subject has been covered greatly and you may want to search for "negative wheel spacer". The idea was floated to use a magical spacer that took away offset from the spindle to solve this problem and allow a 928 to run offsets from 55 to 50 properly. And ultimately it was accomplished.

BTW, I think you'd love a Manual S8.

7 " Cup 2 are 911 wheels, in Germany they haven't enough load.
I have on my S8 an broken heat exchanger. Nothing to love at the moment, I think the dash must be demounted!

I have a set of the correct 928 Cup II wheels that I'll sell (actually have 2 sets, but one is used on the car part of the time). IF you have interest, send me a Private Message, and I can arrange for pix etc. These are not cheap, but they are 7.5 X 17 et 65 and 9 X 17 et 55, They were OE wheels on a friends '94 GTS that he sold with aftermarket wheels, and I bought these from him.

Gary
