Hey all, i have been trying to research my issue on the forum but seems like i have a special case. I am trying to install an Aftermarket radio in my 1982 coupe. The radio was missing when i bought the car. I have all the necessary factory wiring there but when i hook up to it I get power to the new radio but no sound coming out. It appears that the Fader **** that is supposed to be next to the handbrake has been replaced with a Fox radar detector and I don't see any additional wires other than for the radar detector under the carpeted doghouse there. There is no amplifier in the carpeted dog house next to the passenger seat, only the O2 sensor counter unit. When I look behind where the radio was I see what looks like it could be the amplifier but I am not sure. It is buried back in there. The wires coming out of it are pretty big. The ones i can see are red, black, purple, and orange. All look to be big gage. So, would anyone know if that is the amplifier and is there a fuse to it that might be blown? Would like to locate the amp and make sure its got power before i start running new wires. Also, if anyone has a picture of what the amp should look like that would be much appreciated.
If you had a CR model radio originally, there was the in-dash unit with *****, a second box behind and under the head unit, the amplifier next to the passenger seat, and the fader **** on the driver's side. Unit behind the head unit was silver/bare metal, and the amp was mostly black.
Hmmm. Yeah, your unit behind the dash does not look like what i have and definitely no amp next to the passenger seat or under the seat. Here is a pic as best I could do. Any idea if there is a fuse for either the amp or the unit behind the head?
Are you sure there is no amplifier? It is under a cover on the right side of the passenger seat where the trunk release **** is. I have a 1984 and that's where mine was. If you need it I actually might have my amplifier and the wiring required to hook it back up to stock. I put an aftermarket amplifier in that location to match with my aftermarket head unit. Here's a link to my thread with my aftermarket system.
your best bet run new wires from the door connectors under the dash corners to the head unit..
Find the quarter speaker wires and trace them to the fader switch ,
and connect them to the head unit ,
bypass the old amp and fader unit.
If you have an antenna the head unit blue signal wire will turn it on
the antenna has 3 wires a power , ground and signal,
google search for pictures
Fader switch is gone and there are a bunch of wires wire nutted together under the drivers seat. Best find was 8 speaker wires that had been cut and dangling under the steering column area so will run new wires to those and should be good. Thanks all. In the end I think the PO ripped out the amp and radio when they sold the car.
