Hacker, that's the one. I know I'm being picky, but If that opening is left unplugged, I'm sure there's some loss of air/vacuum. Perhaps that's what it is designed for.
Also, I was thinking about Powdercoating the air dist./intake man. a polished aluminum, but didn't want to take the manifolds off. It's a shame, I'm spending so much time in the engine bay cleaning, I'd really like to clean em up, so it all glistens when open the hood.

Rez, is the plug your talking about here or on the same location but on the bottom side? If so, it goes straight through from the top to the bottom and does not go into the actual intake. Don't worry about it.
From my pic, there is also a hose attachment on the right side for the brake booster.
The two holes on the front are for:
AC thing (the large hole on the front)
the other is for auto trans-mission cars, it should have a bolt in it.
Hope this helps!

That hole goes straight through the back of the casting, it almost looks like it was there to run a bolt through. Trust me, it's not supposed to be plugged on the bottom. I have three of those at home, none have a plug, the hole does not enter the inside of the manifold.
If that is the pic of your car's engine, you already have the 8 "spider" legs off, the center pice is only one clamp away from being off.
Good luck with the cleanup job, here is what a simple "bolt on my new red intake" job ended up being:

I had to removed my windshield wiper motor (buried hose underneath), coolant tank, and all hoses in between. I also bead blasted and painted all fuel lines and my fuel dampener, every piece of rubber under the hood has been replaced. With the exception of the main fuel lines that have a 6 inch rubber hose going to the rails. I'm getting braided steel for that spot since the original is no longer available.
Good luck, and do it right the first time.

No, that pic wasn't mine. This one is mine. I wished mine looked as clean as yours, but don't think at this time I'm ready to powder, since I'd probably want to do the cam covers and coolant hardware.

Hacker,
Since, your a 16V-er. Can you check in your engine bay this weekend and see if you have the wire below. The pic is a little blury, but a multi-colored wire comes out the left side firewall and runs down the left side and on mine, attaches to nothing. In the pic, you can see it in front of the brake booster.
pic 3 in the link.
Sorry, it was an old thread and pics wouldn't post[IMG]

Wow, that wire does not look factory, I'm sure mine doesn't have it. Cut it and see what no longer works. I'm kidding.
In the last picture, the orange hose is going to the heater controls. That little device cuts off the water going to the heater core. REPLACE THAT VALVE AND ALL HOSES GOING TO IT NOW!!! Otherwise when they break (and they will) all of your coolant gets pumped out onto your bell housing. Replacing that hose is what caused me to remove my windshield wiper motor. Black hose? Which one?
