underhood light problem
hello all
i have same problem with my underhood light, i put in a new bulb and a new switch (which works with alarm and i believe the underhood light), plus i have new fuses (i don't believe there is a relay for underhood light am i right or wrong?), still no light so i will try the emergency brake pulled along with parkings lights and headlights up to see if works. i guess different year models have diff ways to operate light.

Dave^2 already alluded to this earlier:
Up though '90 the hood light comes on only when the marker lights are on and based on a mercury tilt switch on the hood. The hood open switch if equipped is used for the optional alarm and for the fan control on '87+ cars.
On 91+ cars this switch is also used to control the hood light (mercury switch removed for environmental reasons) and now the hood light comes on regardless of the light switch.
In both cases however the bulb should have 12v on one side (with marker lights on in older cars) and the other side is switched to ground by the appropriate switch (you will have to determine which is which by removing the bulb first).
The mercury switch is on the hood - check continuity of one terminal to ground and the other to the bulb - unscrew from hood so you can switch it at will.
The hood switch is near the LHD passenger engine brace mount - check continuity of one terminal to ground and the other to the bulb, push down for off & release for on.
For all these there is wiring from the engine bay into the hood (along with the nozzle heater supplies if equipped) ... if the hood has been off before - these may be unplugged or simply cut and not reattached (funny how that happens).
