I hear you. I pulled mine and had it rebuild locally...trans rebuild time was two days (once the unit was on the transmission shop's bench)...total project time including torque tube rebuild and a few other minor items was 5 days, FYI.
I cannot imagine that you would not find a MB trans shop within driving distance of your place. You may have the pull the unit yourself (or get a local mechanic shop to do the heavy lifting), then send the trans out to be tested & rebuilt. That's what I had to do. Car sat on the lift for 5 days during the ordeal. Not for the faint of heart when you see what has to come out to remove the transmission and the TT.
If downtime does not cost you anything, then rebuilding the used transmission is the way to go. If you need to get back in business quickly, an rebuilt exchange unit is the ticket.

Rebuilds can really burn a hole in your pocket. 928 International has some real good prices on used trannies and they have a large selection of them like Hollywood Video.
