It's not a 'size' issue...but that is good to know.

Its not "improved" it's a different pod entirely. The shape stayed the same, not the wiring or alerts.

This will help you.

You SHOULD have all of the bases, unless things are missing, but..I highly doubt that.

Check the first photo in this thread, you can see that new bulbs just slide into the old bases.

I noted here that when I thought to put an ohm meter on the "good" bulbs that were in there for 37ys, I got some really high readings on some..they worked, but for sure were "dark".

If you wanna go the extra mile..polish the panel

Good info. will seriously consider buying that lutz kit. of course it will sit on a shelf like so many other projects...but should get at it before next NY inspection.
Currently debating painting part of the house or...repairing the track adjuster on my Takeuchi TB250

To add an unsolicited comment, I think the printed circuit boards that Lutz makes are well put together and have worked for me without issue. I've had one on my '85 for close to a year and it works without issue. I'm probably a bit biased, but i couldn't see me trying to replace the old foil when circuit boards exist.

The LEDs upgrades are just a bonus and look very nice in the pod.
