Default Sport seat bottom cushion, is there a 928 specific version

Help me satisfy my curiosity. We all know that Porsche shared many of the seat assembly components across the 928, 911, and 944 models. And it is common to convert a 911/944 seat to 928 seats. However, I have wondered if there was a difference in the base seat foam for the 928 to account for the taller center cushions. I looked through the PET catalog for seats and found the part number for the sports base cushion used in the 911/944 (928.521.385.27) but could not find the equivalent part number for the same part in the 928 sport seat section. This makes me think there is no difference.

However, two things bother me; First, I have sat in both an original 928 sport seat and a seat converted from a 911 into a 928 seat. I noticed sitting higher in the converted seat. Second, I remember seeing a photo stripped cushion from a 928 sport seat and thought it looked different from the 911 seats that I have stored in my basement. The center section on the 928 sport seat looked lower as to accommodate the taller center cusions. Does anyone have a photo of the base seat foam from a late model sport seat (1985-1995) that was original to the 928?

Below are a set of original sport seats from an '89 911, take note of the height of the center section relative to the bolster. If we can compare this to an original 928 sport seat cushion it would help me resolve something that I have wondered about for a while now.

Hopefully, @olmann or @Jerry Feather will have some insight.

Michael, As I recall there are some pretty good pictures in the thread I did a few years ago with Doug and I recovering the 928 Sport Seats, one of which is shown in my Avatar. I think I bumped that thread just a few weeks ago. Do a search.

Hi @Jerry Feather thanks for resurfacing your amazing thread (ReDesign and Recover Sport Seats). That was the post where I got the picture that stuck in my mind. I will repost them below. The following two photos are from original sports seats from a 928 that Jerry was using for his project.

In comparing Jerry's 928 sport seat with the 911 sport seats in my basement, it is clear to me the sport seat foam cushion for a 928 is different in a few ways:
  1. The Linings on the bolsters of the 928 cushions are of a different and more durable material. This could be more of an issue with year-to-year running changes vs differences between parts

  2. Slots for securing the leather cover (aka Holding Ties). On the 911/944 cushion, there is only one slot. On the 928 sport seat cushion there are 3 slots. These slots look molded into the foam which leads me to believe the 928 part is different

  3. The center section does appear to be lower with respect to the bolsters. Obviously, it is difficult to tell for sure from the photos, a true measurement would confirm.

The information above leaves me to believe there are two parts. Once for 911/944 cars and one for 928 cars. However, I am unable to find the part number in the PET catalog. I scanned through the catalog for "foam part seat cushion" and these are the part numbers and options

92852138523 - 911/944, Standard, electric adjustment, no heat

92852138527 - 911/944, sport, no heat
92852138528 - 911/944, sport, heating
*right side seat cushions use the part number pattern above with a variation for the right side variations 928521386XX
You will note there is a difference in seat cushions for the NON-SPORT version when comparing 928 and 911/944 models. So it would seem like the differences would apply to SPORT cushions.

So my question to those doing seat restorations and conversions. Are you aware of these differences? How do you account for the differences identified above when converting a 911/944 seat to a 928 cover?

The sport seat bolsters are the same from 911/944 to the 928. The 928 bottom seat foam is thinner than the 911/944 seat foam by a half inch. Typically what I do is cut the sport bolsters off the 911/944 seat foam and attach to 928 seat foam. Most of these foams are already torn along the length of the seat where the listings rest and barely holding together. I will glue the bolsters to the foam and then glue in new burlap to the underside for strength. It works real well and gives you an original fit and feel.

Hi Brian, thank you so much for confirming my curiosity. Also big thanks for the insight on how you solved the issue when converting a 911/944 seat to ensure it looks right. I sent you a DM about helping me recover those core sports seats I have. So hopefully you can help me out with that. Thanks again.
