a/c fan
In the engine bay I never see the fan for the a/c (the condensor fan) come on. I would assume as soon as the a/c is turned on from inside the car that the condensor fan would start to spin...but nothing. I asked an auto electrician about it and he says it will come on only if there is enough pressure - not automatically. But he is not familiar with 928s. Is he right or should the fan come on automatically?
Personally I think the car runs a bit too hot and it may be related to this. Where do your temperature guage's sit for those of you with the 4.7 liter engines?
If it should be coming on, can you give me some tips to get it working (I already checked the relevant fuse which was fine).
Thanks for your assistance.

ebs,
don't start to panic yet! The fans on the 928 come on automatically at a spec temp. not just when you turn on the a/c.

IIRC, in the 16v cars with a primary belt driven fan, the front electric fan is on a "demand only" loop controlled by the thermosensor/switch screwed into the rad end tank: when hot enough, the switch closes the aux. fan relay, sending power on to the fan via the fused line you noted. To test the fan seperately, open the connector and apply a fused 12v jumper - to 'bump' for rotation. If that works, jumper across the sensor contacts - and on to jumper pins 30-87 in the relay if that works. (or reverse the test sequence - works either way). The S4s activate automatically with the AC on, not the 16v and '85/'86 32v cars..
Is your AC working? If there is reasonable freon in the system, the low pressure switch will not activate, and the compressor clutch will engage when the AC is turned on; however, a full(er) charge is required before cooling occurs.
