Default Auto Torque tube rebuild '87 S4,Has anybody left out the Harmonic damper ?

The harmonic damper came out when knocking the driveshaft out of the torque tube, it weighs about 5 lb, has anybody left it out ? if so did you notice any difference ? apparently the SE/CS manuals did not have one anyway, & what does it dampen ? as it does not touch the driveshaft, just the wall of the torque tube.

I would think its function would be to insure that the tube shell remained quiet and vibration-free.
