Let me start this intro by saying….i wasn’t looking for another project car and yet this 78 Talbot yellow basket case is now in my garage!
This is my second 928, the first was a 79 euro that met its unfortunate demise in a San Diego traffic accident circa 1999, so I’m both excited and nervous. Excited because….V8 Porsche 928 goodness and nervous because I know that this may take me a few years (7-10) and definitely take more money then it’s worth to restore. Im slow….
From what paperwork that came with the car it seems to have spent most of its life in Connecticut. Seems most of the folks that have owned it before me were not master mechanics and so reversing prior repairs is gonna be fun!
A video walk around was done by a 928 YouTuber showing the distress and challenges as he considered buying but ultimately passing on it.
lucky me.
Seems most people either love or hate the color - I’m definitely in love with the color and would love to see it fully restored. TBD
in it’s current state it will start (😊 with starting fluid - but then quickly dies…. I’m running through the various diagnostic efforts to determine problem areas in the CIS. Something I’ve not done before so it’s a bit slow going. Wiring is hacked vacuum tubes missing or rotted etc etc.
Looking forward to this project and exploring these threads for advise and solutions. If anyone knows the car or has no about it please message me. Thanks Dionk
I will chime in; a long and most of the time fun road of restoration begins. If you let it take the time it needs this will be a nice 928. When you have done all else it needs, change the left headlight and keep the right. Euro frameless lights makes a big difference, especially when they are folded down in miura-mode...
This is the 3rd of 7 US market 1978s in Talbot yellow, all which were 5-speed/no sunroof cars. Yours is production #2585. Great candidate for a restoration!
