1 of 6 Calloway twin turbo 928s.

Cosmetically looks in fantastic condition. Only 68k miles.

How is this not an incredible buy?

What am I missing here?

Cool car, but really you should install a new ECU as the piggyback system Callaway devised and installed isn't that effective and HP is only ~300 with the current setup.

Someone on here has a Callaway TT and swapped in a Euro S engine due to driveability issues IIRC.

Good points, Blake.

Also thinking about it some more that car has been stored since 2005...almost 20 years. Also they say the car is a non-runner, so it will have to be shipped to the new owner.
Why?
I am thinking the reason it has sat for so long is they blew the engine or tranny and it has sat ever since because they couldn't afford to fix it, so you are looking at a lot of expenses there.
Then since it hasn't moved, all the hoses will have to be replaced and a lot of other parts will be cracked, brittle, seized.

I'm personally thinking it's going to take a LOT of money to bring this car back.

Ashame because it sure looks beautiful and beguiling in the photos.

Someone is going to have either the sweetest deal on earth or the ultimate money pit...

Wow..very cool find!.
I had no idea that Callaway made 6 of these.
Those turbos must really be buried as the only evidence is the charge pipe.
This would be a fun car to own and update to a newer engine management as mentioned above, as the availability to manage fuel and timing was so limited back in the '80s.
I would imagine mechanically it would be fine but also updating to new style wastegates and the new less "laggy" turbos would also update performance and throttle response.

The auction close today with current bidding at $15,600, I'm sure it will inch close to 420k.

Default non-running car that has sat for almost 20 yrs. $24.4k

The 1984 Porsche 928 S with Calloway twin turbo just went for $24.4k.
Car doesn't even run and has sat for almost 20 years...

Still no regrets. I think they are stepping into a GIANT money pit.
Too many huge red flags to ignore.
I have mentioned my concerns in the post above...

Rare 1984 Porsche Callaway 928 S Twin Turbo. 1984 Porsche 928 S Callaway 5 speed manual with 68,540 miles, it is believed that Callaway made 50-944’s and 6-928’s. This is 1 of 6 928’s. This car has been in storage since 2005. It will need a mechanical restoration, but car will run if you manually add fuel. Car will not drive, will need to be towed. This car is being sold as is due to age of car. Any questions or additional pictures contact Tony at Ferrante Motor Cars 724-567-5675. We are near Pittsburgh, PA.

But man she sure is pretty!

In all honesty whoever got her, I hope they bring her all the way back to good condition and I hope they enjoy many happy miles with her!

Counterpoint, if the paint and interior are as good as the photos suggest, I think it was a good buy. Let's pretend the engine / trans are completely roasted, buy a used engine / trans from Mark Anderson and you've got a very nice car on your hands. Body and paintwork have become so expensive (interior bits not much cheaper) this has become far more important than mechanical parts. Unless the engine is super rare and impossible to fix / replace. In this case, about the cheapest engine to source.

I have the first one they did, a 1980 Metallic Tabac. The turbos are hidden so well that about the only one you can see is the driver's side from underneath, and not much of that one. A steel charge tube that looks way too small in diameter to me runs perilously close to the positive terminal of the alternator. There are lots of things that concern me about the car, but it's been on the road for 43 years and I still am not afraid to drive it 100 mi. in a day.

I will second the comment about adding and ECU, that is definitely on my list of things to do, just for drivability. I bought the car to drive, so I am more interested in driving it than keeping it original. Still saving the parts, though.
