Talking One item per day

OK... I bought my 928 last Sunday. I drove it home and put it in the garage, until I can get the timing belt done (no grenading engines, please).

But there's plenty of other stuff to do on the car while I wait for my parts to arrive. Lots of details. tinkering. Fiddling.

So I've been fixing one thing a day. Lord this is fun. I will fix one thing a day until the car is right.

Monday: remount ashtray
Tuesday: adjust center console
Wednesday: get door lights working, lubricate hinges and locks
Thursday: replace windshield and hatch wiper blades
Friday: Don't know yet. If the parts come, replace hatch and hood shocks, otherwise check all fuses and replace any bad ones. Maybe lubricate the sunroof tracks and rear windshield wiper motor/linkage.

Should be sitting pretty by August! If not, I'll just keep going... and going...

Hope you don't have anything to do until August! How many times have I started some tiny job that would take no time, only to discover I'd killed the entire day? Let's put it this way - I took the day off today when I realized I wasn't going to finish a job on my 911 (they owed me a day off for a weekend day I worked).

Have you hugged your shark today? I hugged one of my Ex-sharks today as I fixed the A/C.

I miss it soooo much.

Ah, but I don't necessarily have to fix the thing I set out to fix. If it gets too hard, I can shift over to something easy and come back another day.

The "One thing a day" method works on cars, Victorian houses, anything. The point is the process, not the end goal, although you get there eventually.

....and then comes the day when all the things left to fix just can't be done in one day.

So then I remove or replace or repair one sub-assembly per day.

The grief comes in when the goal becomes more important than the process. This is a zen thing.

OM MANE PADME HUM

then, once it's running,

OM MANE PADME ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

Zen and the Art of 928 Maintenance will show up on Amazon soon, I take it.
