I park my 928 in the back yard. It will be there until October then it will go into the garage. My son is currently restoring his 1979 Dodge Ramcharger truck which is 7 feet tall. I have a car cover on it right now it is useless. I put my washed 928 under the covers when I remove the covers it looks completely dirty. I am afraid that my car will end up rusting away. These new breathable car covers are useless. I need something that will repel water. Does anyone use a plastic cover for their 928. Someone told me that it would rust if I use a plastic cover. My car is rusting with the new car covers.

Can we assume that your back yard is not paved? If so, I don't think any cover is going to keep your 928 in good condition. You'll have moisture coming up from the ground along with bugs, varmints and who knows what else. First, I'd see if you can find a paved spot to park the car on. Or, failing that, see if you can get a bit of the yard paved. (That's what I did.)
Second, checkout Larry's Reynolds tips:

And then:

For not a whole lot of money you can whip up a useable garage on a bit of pavement and you'll not only keep your 928 better protected you can work on it too.
Lastly, one or both of my 928s has been known to spend considerable time outside (this may be shocking to some I'm sure) in all types of weather - even New England snow storms. I have used Noah breathable covers for years. Yes, they do let some water through but they allow the moisture to evaporate and trapped moisture is bad, bad, bad.
As for the rusting issue - what's rusting? The big metal bits of the 928 are either aluminum or hot-dipped zinc galvanized steel. I've only seen or heard of rust on 928s in spots that were damaged or badly repaired. No doubt my experience is limited but, I'm curious as to what's deteriorating on your car.

Not a rain forest. And it does dry out every once in a while.
