.........."The engine assembly was painted in a Gulf-inspired theme"............ Looks more like GM corporate blue and chevy orange to me,but it might just be my humble domestic vehicle upbringing.
If I still had a wife, or even a significant other, I'm sure that that thing woud be just below the last thing on the list of any kind of "furniture" to be let into my house.
Although I do have on prominent display in my living room a Porsche Engine kind of sculpture in Bronze done by an artist friend of mine back in 1978. See the picture. Do you have any idea of what it is a sculpture of?
It is titled "Trackside Diagnosis."

Very Good Olman and Rob E. I think it is a sculpture of a 692/2 engine and a couple of guys working on it in about 1959. Porsche had put about 5 cars into the 24 hours of LeMans race and they all had the 692 engine in them. They had begun to fall out of the race with engine failure and when the last of them fell out they quickly pulled the engine to see if it could be fixed easily and put back into the race. Someone took a picture of the two Porsche mechanics looking into the engine after it was pulled and this picture ended up in a book of some sort. My friend, Larry Braun, the artist in Loveland Colorado, sculped the picture based on him having one of the engines with a Porsche project he had at the time, and he put the sculpture into the art contest at the PCA Parade in Aspen in 1978. It won first palce. Later I made contact with him and bought one of the limited edition bronzes from him. MIne is 4/14 done in 78. I think Porsche found that the engines were burning holes in the pistons so they didn't finish the race. At that time I had a 1964 Porsche 356 Carerra 2 also known as the 2000GS, but I had to sell it in the early 80s. I wish I still had it now since I think it might be worth about half a milion bucks.
