Fellow 928ers,

I had a vacuum leak after my refresh of the top-end. My smoke test identified it as a loose clamp in the throttle body that goes to the valve cover. Originally it seamed to be coming from the small 7mm orange valve in front of the Throttle body. I tightened it, thinking that was the problem (dope), it wasn't.

Put everything back together and returned the orange "valve" to it's original position (4 turns from stop) now symptoms are:
  1. I have black smoke out the exhaust at idle
  2. the car will not increase speed when pressing the accelerator, it stalls.
  3. The car is back to the hard to start, it starts and dies immediately. Argh.
So my questions:
  1. What does that orange valve do on the front of the throttle body and what should it be set at (how many turns from bottom out)?

  2. Any thoughts on the dying when pressing the accelerator?
This diagnosis all started when my idle was at 1200 - 1500 when warm in neutral (even thought the car ran great).

Any help is appreciated.

Boaf

Black smoke is to much fuel / not enough air.

Fellow 928r's

Update and the news is a not what I wanted. All vacuum leaks smoke tested and saw no smoke anywhere. Start the car, runs great, 750 but idle goes up 1500 - 1800 after it warms up. That sucks. What else can it be???

Work done:
New intake gaskets
New Crank Sensor
New front sensor
New Idle Stabilizer.

Reminder this whole fun started when the car would not start and run because of bad Crank Position sensor, car backfired and busted the Throttle body mounts.

Thanks guys.

Boaf
