$50-60k budget for an OB manual - what would YOU get?

I have a 1980 manual with sunroof delete, and a 86.5 auto with sunroof and side strips. When I first drove the 86 it drove like a bus compared to the 1980. I was amazed at the difference. The 80 drives more like the sports car side of a GT, where the 86 drives more like the touring side. I love the sport seats in the 86, and really love both cars. Just a real treat to have two 928's but two very different driving cars. If I could only own one it would be the 80 manual.

What contributes to this difference in your opinion? Is the 86 much heavier? Is that difference "factory" based (where they made and tuned differently) or is that due to how each of these specific cars was maintained and cared for over the years?

both cars limited owners, well preserved and stock. 80 is the lightest of the 928's I have read and the difference in the stock suspensions add to the handling and feel. david

With that type of budget, I'd be willing to part early with my soon to come up on BaT holy grail 1985 Euro 5-speed M28.21 twin dizzy. The car was imported to the US directly from the factory by my brother, federalized by my brother's dealership, and dynoed on arrival at 330 hp. It's guards red with triple tan/black full leather interior. It was my DD for 33 years. But alas, while it does have sport seats they are not pasha😰. To be honest, I don’t know why everyone wants pasha. I had one prior to my '85 and it was very hard on the eyes as a daily driver.

Personally, I think I would close my eyes tight and hit the bid button on this car:
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...e-928s-euro-4/
Euro 928S, 5-speed, petrol blue, no rub strips, no sunroof... but terrible photography. Then take the rest of your money and fix whatever it needs, which might be less than it appears at first glance.

Euro 928S, 5-speed, petrol blue, no rub strips, no sunroof... but terrible photography. Then take the rest of your money and fix whatever it needs, which might be less than it appears at first glance.

title
I can support that.
I'd buy it as-is. Nice color, five speed car, no roof, no rubbies. The dash and pod look perfect. If the car sells for very achievable $15k, your restoration budget is $35k. No title, though. That would be a deal breaker for me, since I live in a title state.

Quick answer. 78/79 car manual seats, no sunroof. No rub, manual in an interesting color. Pasha or pinstripe is a plus.
Second choice. 1980 Euro S with all of the above. Mine is non federalized and it really looks pure and simple

thanks. Yes, that was my question and I think you answered it with the analogy. Rarity or collectability are low on my personal priority list. I also don’t put investment appreciation high on my list either. I do understand why it would be on others though.
My priorities are a mix of hedonistic and pragmatic: the most beautiful design features and aesthetic/color choices, and a car that drives well and is a pleasure to take out, without having to worry about its mechanical condition all the time. Original aspects and parts do add to the aesthetic and romantic elements too.
i also see how these priorities can perfectly line up with scarcity value. I’ve been around watch communities and others where, inevitably, we end up gravitating and yearning for those rare pieces.
