Default Repairing plastic fuel Tanks

Hi All:
I have punctured my plastic fuel tank, and was wondering if they can be repaired, and how? I am in Sydney Australia, help please.

I believe they are polyethylene or polypropylene, which have few solvents. A plastic welder is probably the way to go; check www.HarborFreight.com

John, I took the tank off and glued it with JB Weld. You need to clean it very well before doing so. That was six months ago and no leak yet. You can do a search on this site to precise steps on how to do it.

Good luck

John,

Try using polyurethane concrete crack filler. I used this on a leak in my tank and it's holding fine. This stuff comes in a "caulk gun" tube. It is moisture curable, which means that it will cure based on the humidity in the air, so putting heat to it won't really help it cure faster. It will take a few days for it to cure, but when it's done it will be a really tough flexible repair and shouldn't leak anymore.

When I get home from work, I'll get more details off the tube I have and post them here. JB weld is not flexible enough and can re-crack if the tank flexes for any reason. Ask me how I know..... - Ruf
