Default 78-81 Oil Dipstick Question

Do these have a replaceable O ring like the later cars do?

They have an aluminum crush ring, instead of a rubber o-ring. 900 123 007 30.

A related question. Can the dip stick tube/dip stick from a later pan (87 and up) fit and earlier pan (80) ?

Nope, early dipstick tubes screw in, later tubes are held in by an M6 bolt

Not the tube, the stick itself, is there an Oring below the handle?

Have a friend with an 82, the stick blows out of the tube.

get a new dipstick,
the rib is molded into the rubber plug at the base of the handle for the early cars.
so there is not an O ring.

That said a dipstick blowing out means excessive blowby,
pour a can of that oil additive Greg suggested into the oil,
and drive the car with lowered RPMs,
maybe the additive will loosen the rings.

Thanks Rob. My question was asking for a friend who has a 80 and he is getting oil seepage from the dipstick in hard braking zones at the track (track tires and s4 brakes). Pretty sure it's not a crankcase pressure thing. I think, based on this thread, that he might try a new dipstick first to see if it alleviates the problem.

I guess a related question, can the yellow handle dip stick fit into the old style tube so one can use a replaceable o-ring (of course having to cut down the actual metal to make it fit in the pan)?

I think the yellow handle stick will hit cooling hoses
Note don’t try to bend the old style dipstick tube as it could snap off or be iunremovable since it has to turn to be removed and if it’s bent it will hit the timing belt cover
