Default Oil pan front access port bolts

While removing a modified oil pan access port cover on my 85-
(dipstick port on older models)
When putting the bolts back in-
they are spinning and not holding-
creating an oil leak-
the bolts are m6x20
part #

N01021710

I tried new bolts from lowes with some Drei Bond-
no good-
Before pulling the pan and re-tapping, can anyone suggest a larger bolt that might bite?
I am not great with machine bolt sizes-
(very awkward area to reach)
thanks

M7 is pretty rare on these cars, so I would suggest you step up to an M8, if you want to try to see if that will bite. I guess you could go stepwise (M7, then M8) but I don't know that you'll have any luck finding an M7 at a local hardware store.

Is there any chance this was changed to an SAE bolt in the past, by a PO? If you think that might be the case, then maybe try a 1/4" bolt as that's just slightly bigger than the M6.

Good luck

I removed the plate and determined I got a better bite getting the bolts in deeper-
I went with 2 longer m6-1.00 x 25mm-

felt good on install
we shall see
