Default Reset Trip Odometer

My gas guage is not working, so I thought I better get some gas and track the mileage. Unfortunately, I can't get the trip odometer reset. Looked thru the owner's manual. Not sure if it's the original or an 87-88 manual, but it shows the mechanical dials vs my 89's digital. The manual says the lower **** on the left of the dash pod is pushed to reset the trip odo. Except that **** is for the rear defrost on my car. Tried moving the lower left stalk various ways (even got it to convert ot KMs), but nothing would reset the trip. How do I accomplish this?

Thanks.

For an 1989, you reset the trip mileage counter using the green button on your center console.

Thank you both. Glad you color coded your answer too. According to my owner's manual, that's the central warning system button. But since you said it was green, I found it, pushed it for sev secs and the mileage cleared. Looking at the symbol on the green button, it's the same as the manual shows on the left ****. Wonder if I have the correct owner's manual?

Check this thread. On page 50 of the 1989 owner's manual you will see the information on the green '0' button.

You can get a new fuel level sender for your 89 and then reset it using the factory directions. The gauge in the cluster rarely if ever fails.

Their part number is 92864103002.

They're pretty cheap on Rosepassion right now, but you can get them from our local suppliers too https://www.rosepassion.com/en/parts...285-2915-29361

Thanks for the link. My page 50 discusses the glove box and rear glove box. Looks like I have an 87 manual. Would like to buy an 89 manual if anyone has an extra.

Yeah, assumed the sender would be the culprit. Problem is there's 100lbs of stereo equip over the gas tank / trunk. Pretty sure I'll be taking that out this winter when I do more maint jobs and putting the factory stereo setup back in. Will have a chance to get to the top of the gas tank at that time. In the meantime, I'll fill when I get 200 mi on the trip odo.

Was driving to a car show today and noticed the gas gauge showed full rather than empty. Hooray! Guess one of the bumps on our "smooth" roads knocked it loose. Now I don't have to keep track of how many miles I've driven or tear my stereo and gas tank apart.
