These engines can be hard to turn unless you have a breaker bar. And you generally don't have a lot of room either on top or below to get a good swing. Not saying it isn't stuck but it might not be.

Good point. Cant be done by hands around pulleys. Big socket, short extension, long handle. But it doesn't take tremendous force to rotate.

I might be able to come look at it today if you want another set of eyes on it and arnt afraid I'm some sort of internet axe murderer. Lol.

I'm actually in Newkent county 20 minutes from the airport. I always just say Richmond since most people know where that is. I didn't except anyone to be local

Give me some time to figure out some stuff. I bought the car from a family member under the pretense that I would fix it up. I don't want them to think I deceived them.

Any Idea of what the car is worth how it sits? I know its a big unknown with the engine. For now I will keep Cleaning, And do some further diagnostics. Its hard to test the electronics since they haven't found the key yet. ( I am sure they will though)

I am almost positive that the engine is stuck. a jack handle as a breaker bar and it still would not budge. And yes it was a bitch to get the socket on the pulley oh yeah and the hood fell on my head during that whole ordeal.

I would think a very clean, good condition non-runner is worth at least a few $K.

I’d clean everything twice - remove the wheels to get the brakes and wheel wells, get it in the air somehow to get the undercarriage, full engine cleaning (doesn’t need to shine, just not dirty), full interior, etc. I’m thinking all common household cleaning supplies, not dry ice. Treat the leather, scrub the wheels and tires.

A clean car shows some level of care and will make diagnosing other problems easier. Plus nobody wants to work on a dirty car if you you need to ask for help.

^^Great advice. You will feel better about it. Looks like there is a lot there to rally around. Its complete, interior looks very good.

I get managing expectations. One thing you might also want to do is come up to Sterling for the Frenzy. You can even just stop by on saturday morning at the venue and see all the cars and talk to the owners. Huge amount of knowledge will be close-by for you to tap into. These are exclusively 928 people, who will talk to you, it isnt some snooty car expo.

I'm actually up in Ladysmith, near Six Flags.

The task is finding a good S3 block. Should be possible. For parting we should use cars in worse shape.

I think as it sits, it is worth no more than $500. I don't think anyone would pay more. It is a parts car with a non-turning engine. I'd look for $1000 but settle for whatever I could get to move it out.

You have made the good effort of reaching out to the 928 community and asking about fixing it. Now that you are learning more about what is involved, you can honestly offer the car back to the family for your money back. No shame and nothing wrong with admitting you may have gotten in over your head. Family should also understand the importance of college.

On the other hand, if they don't mind it being a long term project - maybe even not done until after college, you could keep it and slowly work on it. However, the more of your own effort and $ you put into it, the less sense it will make of returning the 928 to the family for your original payment back.

If you return it to the family, you can also tell them about 928Fixer's interest or put them in touch with each other.

Hey guys update on the porsche

I have decided to go ahead and sell it how it is now. I have only cleaned the interior and engine bay, Nothing else.

The owner was unable to find the keys but I do have a title.

I will make a separate sale thread for it tomorrow with better pictures.

Good solution to sell it 'as is' rather than parting it out. Parting out would be a pain in the a$$ as you'd be spending a lot of time removing certain items w/o breaking them, boxing them up, and heading to your fav shipper. Would get old quickly. Plus the carcass gets uglier and uglier as you remove more parts. Selling it whole is defn the way to go.

Now get it as good looking as possible. Air up the tires. However you can, get it to a place where it looks good when photographed. Then take lots of pics - ext, int, engine compartment, etc. The better it looks, the more you'll get. You only have 1 chance to make a first impression, so delay your ad if you can do some more cleaning. Be accommodating - be available is someone is going to come to you to buy it and be willing to help a shipper get the car on their trailer. Express that willingness to be avail in your ad. Every little bit helps add to the value.

Hey guys haven't got the car posted yet. Still working on cleaning it up. The inside is looking great. I only have access to a small shop vac so it isn't perfect. Will get it posted by the end of this week.

You found a desirable 928- DONT sell it. Keep it. Put the $ you have into 1) storage until you are either out of college and earning a paycheck or 2) storage until you win the lottery 3) whatever is left over from storage $ spend on parts, beginning with the most 'hard to find' parts as these are disappearing quickly.
Look at it this way..... you now hold a desirable stock that you are going to hang onto 'long term'. You can always sell this car later on & if you do? It won't depreciate.

Good job! That's what I'm talking about. You may have just added $500 to the price. Don't forget to take pics of the dash and dash pod. From what I've seen, they look to be in very good cond (no or not many cracks). An int in good shape is valuable as it can cost a lot of $$$ to restore one. Your's looks to be in very good cond.

Now put some effort into the ext. If you can't move it, then be sure to mow and trim the grass around it. Then hit the ext with some clay bar and detailer. That could add another $500.

Keep going, you're headed in the right direction.
