Default 95 GTS door panel removal..any advice, tricks or things I need to know?

I'm getting ready to remove the interior door panels off of a 95 GTS. I've never done this before. Is there anything I need to know going in? Any insider stuff that will make my job easier, things I should look out for, what not to do etc?

The removal procedure for the '95 model is exactly the same as all those from at least '87, and probably even earlier cars as well. Been there, done that, on several S4's as well as '94 and '95 GTS's.

Just look out for final step of removing the card - it’s held by a hook at the rear end so you need to move the card forwards before lifting clear. Check condition of membrane and replace if necessary using the old one as template.

Take your time.

There are a couple small screws (one of them holding the back behind the door handle in place...) that you don't want to have to try and replace.

Do your due diligence sorting which color wires go where on things like courtesy lights and (if still applicable) the rocker switch for side view mirror adjustment. It is also a good time to consider installing an armrest reinforcement kit; it should have been a part of the card's design from the beginning.

Get a full new set of the plastic door panel attachment push-ins..there is a post here somewhere showing the orientation of black/white ones....even if they come out without disintegrating...they're 27 years old...they are toast.

Taking them out of the door panel can be an exercise in frustration...the plastic is hard and inflexible. ...resist the urge to just yank them out with the pliers...besides risking harm to the card...you could make your day a nightmare and snap the plastic off level with where it goes into the recess in the door card...thats a mistake you'll only make once. Twist and lift carefully.

New ones go in a lot easier than the old ones come out

I'm sure these are all covered already in the excellent threads that have been linked to but recently I did a minor drivers' door panel overhaul and thought to share the things I hadn't really gone through in my head to be part of the plan before I started.

I also had a few places to re-attach the upholstery where it was peeling away from places on the back side of the card and do a fix to the part of the card StratfordShark refers to above where the hook is attached. While servicing the panel to prepare for reinstallation I came across damage to the integrity of the fiber panel where that hook is mounted.
