Talking Newbie. Just bought the Ebay 2 for 1!!

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the group and 928s, but not to Porsches, having owned 2 944s in the past. I just wanted to take the opportunity to introduce myself and ask if there are any owners in the Philadelphia,PA Area that wouldn't mind sharing some of their expertise with me. I am really curious about the culprit that got into a last minute bidding war with me for the cars, I suspect that he or she is a member of the list...LOL. I was actually surprised that I wasn't priced out of the game, but I guess either most people were scared away by the sellers 0 feedback or maybe I'm just a sucker and am paying too much. Any things that I should be concerned about that you guys can see from the auction? Thanks in advance for any help that you guys can give me as I try to make 2 fractional cars into 1 whole.

Like I said before, I'm not particurally familiar with the 928 and would definitely like to know why having EURO parts on the car is a bad thing? I emailed a couple of questions to the owner but didn't get a response until after the auction was over and that was only to send me his contact info. Again, any help is greatly appreciated and definitely welcomed. I'm looking forward to getting my hands dirty!!!!!!!!!!

I saw that on ebay, looks like fun to me. And I think you got a decent deal. Sounds like the '86 runs, $5k for a running '86+ 928 is a good deal.

Hi, Chris! Welcome aboard!

I live in Bucks County (Yardley) and also have an '86 that I purchased as an insurance theft recovery salvage. Yes, I have found some interesting problems, but have been able to repair them all, so far.

The '84 parts car is helpful for some parts, but won't help much with the engine, as the '86 is different. The '86 looks good, though, so hopefully, you won't find too much wrong. I like that color!

Most important with these cars is to make sure the timing belt has been changed recently - a failure is catastrophic. First thing I did when I got my car was change the belt and water pump (along with a lot of other WYAIT -while you are in there - repairs).

If you really want to get involved with the car, the best help is provided by other owners, just as you have suspected. Therefore, I would suggest that you first support Rennlist by becoming a member (that's how it keeps going!). Then you can also do searches on the site to find out info on just about anything on 928's.

Let me know where you live and maybe we can meet up/help out!

Chris,

I'm not all that close, but if you're going to be doing anything major, I could be in the mood for a road trip =) Especially if you're interested in selling the 84's euro motor =)

Hi Chris,

Congrats and welcome to the "Club" of 928 addiction.

Never been called a "culprit" before :-)

You got a great deal, I am familiar with the seller and the cars. Let me know if I can help you with anything you need for them.

You have a number of potentially valuable parts the Euro engine parts in particular , get your project home and carefully evaluate what you have and where you are going . For this to be a good deal you need to recover some good money for the "extra parts" . If you find that the 32 valve engine does not run then about all you have are parts . Be sure that you get paperwork titles for both cars to avoid any future issues ....even to junk a car body you need paperwork ! The late transmission 5 speed is "worth" $2,500 or so click into our Store below my signature and you will get a good idea what parts can be worth . Welcome to our little pond of 928 fanatics you obviously belong since you did not bother to ask how deep but simply jumped in !! Too bad about that "other guy" running up the price But he does know what cars/parts are worth !! And is a very nice guy .

Guys,

Thanks for all of your well wishes and advice. I should be flying out at the beginning of next week to bring the Maroon car back to Philly. The black car will go into storage for a few weeks until I can make arrangements to bring it back. It is located outside of Chicago at the moment and if anyone is local and wants to get some parts from it let me know and I can make arrangements to get to it, my mother-in-law works for U.S. Air so I basically fly for free. If I can get rid of the majority of parts in the next month or so, I guess it makes sense to keep it there and part it out instead of dragging a car to Philly that I really can't salvage too many big ticket parts from anyway. By the way, yes the car is running and tranny is in good shape, and just had a recent tune-up. It will need new shocks and a wiper motor, and I'm sure you guys at 928 Specialist can help me out. Thanks again for all of the help!!!!!

That's too bad about the Euro. Doesn't look too far out that it couldn't be brought back to life again. I hate to see those rare Euro cars get parted out.

Welcome to the fold!
