Question Need info on roller bearings

I know I saw this discussed but I can't turn it up in a search. Coming up on TB/WP job for the '87. Can I just replace the bearings in the tension and idler rollers? Anyone have some part numbers? Or do I have to buy new rollers? Thanks.

Hi.

If you have a 1987 this is what you need:

You can buy new bearings and press them in on three of the four needed bearings. Get (1) 6905RS and (2) 6201RS's. The main tensioner bearing is a propietory piece from INA and sells for about $40-60 depending upon where you get it.

Good luck

Steve,
With a hand full of sockets and a vise, you have an instant bearing press. The fit is usually tight enough, but if in doubt - a drop of blue Loctite will do the trick.

fst951,
Is the INA tensioner bearing assembly available from other that porsche part suppliers? - ie., industrial bearing suppliers. I opened one up thinking it would take a pair of std. sealed bearings - no such luck!

Default tensioner bearing

Hi guys.

I am sure that you could build one, but why waste the time. You already saved almost $250 from Porsche by rebuilding the other two or three bearings-depending upon how early your 1987 is. I just buy them from my supplier. I think it runs about $40 for the special tensioner bearing? I just wouldn't feel good supplying a customer with riveted together item. Just my personal opinion.

Good luck
