I'm in the process of replacing the lines to the external transmission cooler and have a plumbing question. I thought I'd taken a picture of the line routing before I removed them but apparently I didn't. My question is which port should the external cooler fill from? The transmission fluid enters the cooler in the radiator from the bottom line and exits to the external cooler from the top. I'm thinking the external cooler should fill from the bottom and exit from the top as well.
This diagram matches my '86 as line 7 has a crimped connection on the side away from the cooler. My issue is that it shows the external cooler being filled from the top. I'm thinking it should fill from the bottom.
This diagram is for 85 and prior and shows the external cooler filling from the bottom as it seems to me it should.
Which direction do you think the external cooler should flow? I'm thinking the pressure in should go to the lower port on it.. Let me know what you think.
