Temp II sensor -- would an out-of-range sensor make the engine run rich to the point of flooding and dying, or just run ragged?

It occurred to me today that, since the problem is more acute in traffic (last time I drove, sitting at a light waiting for the light rail train to pass had me cussing like a sailor because I knew I was about to lose motive power), whatever is getting hot and failing is likely cooled by airflow when I'm moving. MAF, wiring, ??? We'll have to wait for me to finish some WYAITs (including leaky PS pump and, apparently, TB tensioner, as well as AC compressor rebuild) to find out.
