Default is ford's race red identical to the "orange" shade of guards red?

I know that Porsche had a few different shades of red back the day and possibly slightly different variants of what they called guards red (this might be bad info but I went round and round when trying to get the right shade for a 951 that i restored about 10 years ago...I ended up mixing my own)....one seemed to have more yellow added, the other more blue. The guys at the paint supply look like a deer in the headlights when I try to tell them that I want the one that has more yellow.... I've noticed that ford had a shade of red that I believe might be close to a perfect match for the "yellow" version of guards red. I ask because it might be helpful to be able to just use that formula to eliminate confusion... (I threw in a ferrari red just for comarison as well)

A friend of mine has a F-150 in Race Red and we were pondering the same question.
By themselves his truck and my 928 seem to be the same shade but when parked next to each other the difference was much more pronounced.
Race Red has a bit more “orange” to it than the ‘91 version of Guards Red on my car.

928 Guards red at least in later years is more subdued in my opinion.. We painted mine with what I think is an older 911 guards red...its more lipstick with a little orange/yellow...it pops when its clean. A friend at our club has a guards red '90 928 and side by side and there is a big difference. The guards red we painted it did not match the guards red that was on it originally....I know it was the original single stage paint when we bought it...the previous owner had showered so much love on it the edges of some of the panels (gas tank door was a real obvious one) had gone down to primer he'd polished the car so much....

too bad he let it languish for 8 flipping years and everything melted....I almost crashed it during the initial test drive at 25mph...it drove so badly it was able to go in the opposite direction you turned the wheel...literally had never had a more bizarre driving experience...it was like the damn thing was possessed... I was in 3rd person looking at myself driving a hundred thousand dollar car (and he'd cleaned it up and it looked magnificent) at 25 miles an hour like I was narcoleptic; falling asleep and suddenly waking up right when I was almost into the curb....felt like I was 12. Should have been recorded...you would all have loved it.

this. 50 shades of guards red....lol! I'm in agreement with you in that I think I've seen some early shades that leaned further towards orange than others. When I repainted my 951, I buffed a section that was under the carpet and matched that. It was definitely more orange than the formula that the guys at English Color were seeing in their books...

Kevin, your problem lies in the fact that you are trying to use an English Color on a German car. Now just as I use only German air in my tires, and German coolant in my radiators, you should only use German color on German cars.

My Torch Red Shelby is about the same shade as my guards red 928. I'm not sure if Ford Race Red is the same as Ford Torch Red, but Torch Red has a fair amount of orange in it too.
