Default Headlight washer help

I'm working on the '79 washer system. I pulled the tank, cleaned, installed a new motor and replaced. I still need to replace the windshield motor still but when I "fire" the washers/spray, I hear the motor in the bottom of the tank but it isn't pushing fluid toward the headlight. Any thoughts on what to check or did wrong? Do the headlights need to be up? I'm waiting on a relay for those. Ugh. Your help is always appreciated and thanks for your patience with the newbie.

There are check valves in the hoses that run to the nozzles in the front bumper, they can get pretty crusty and block fluid flow. If you have compressed air you might try undoing the hose from the pump outlet in the bottom of the tank and blowing compressed air through the lines. If no flow then there's probably debris at the check valves, you may need to unclog them which means the front bumper cover has to come off. Bit of a PITA for a rarely used feature.

Thanks Rob. Do the headlights need to be on for them to work? I've read that is the case in some later model Porsches. Thanks, B

The headlight switch needs to be on headlamps and the key needs to be in run for the washer motor to work
to activate the HL washer push the washer stalk forward
Note rusty water will be sprayed onto the hood if the system is not clean.

it’s a safe bet that if the motor runs but not spray then it was probably frozen with low quality washer fluid new HL washer units are available about 85.00

note you can test your motor by applying 12 v to it leave it in the tank see if you get any spray

It's a new motor, I'll be prepared for the rusty spray. However, If I'm hearing the pump, shouldn't it be pumping fluid even if the HLs are off?

The headlights have to be on though? I'm having an issue with my relay. The HLs cycle up/down continually and my new relay has arrived yet.

Hi everyone. I wanted to revive this old thread of mine. I finally was able to dedicate some time to my headlight washer system now that my headlights are working properly. After a little air compressor action, I was able to clear the lines and get a broken line removed and replaced. I was getting ready to reinstall the nozzle but wanted to ask a quick question. Are the nozzles adjustable? They look to be but I cannot get them to move. I threw the one that is out in the ultrasonic cleaner thinking it might break up any build-up but it still won't move. Any info would be appreciated.

Where were you able to order the tool? I thought that it had been NLA for a long time.

The site let me place an order? We’ll see if I get notified that it is NLA.

This is the original 9135 tool for headlight washer aiming. At first glance it looks similar to the T10167 tool, please let us know if it fits and will adjust the nozzles.
