Default Door glass is down inside the door - Window regulator the culprit? I hear the motor..

On a gorgeous Sunday, I got home after a lovely drive today and went to raise the windows. Hit the two switches, passenger-side went up. Driver's-side did not.

With the car turned off, I could press the switch up or down and hear the motor cycle up and stop, then down and stop, depending upon the way I held the switch. In my reading of the archives and some other threads online, it appears it might be the window regulator. Does this sound possible as the culprit?

Or maybe something simple, like it came off the rails/track?

Your insight is appreciated. Car is in the garage, tucked away for the day/night/week.

I recently replaced my plastic roller that attaches to the regulator and slides inside the window track at the base of the window. It's possible that the plastic roller came out of the track or the roller came out of the regulator. Door panel removal only takes a few minutes so I would start there to get a better look. Mine is an 81, not sure what year yours is or if all years are the same but it sounds like your regulator is hitting the top and bottom stops so the connection to the window is amiss. Also, I recently replaced the rubber bumper on the lower stop as mine were gone - you'll want to check the bumpers while you're at it.

Thanks. I found this on the 928 Tips Page: https://www.nichols.nu/tip454.htm

It's how to remove a door panel, and looks applicable. Will take a peek inside this week (if possible)

The Nichols write-up is excellent for removing whole door card, but for seeing what has failed you probably only need to go as far as removing centre leather panel. The plastic membrane just drops into aperture covered by panel so you can just move out of way to get a good look.

It also sounds as if the riveted nylon wheel (part 4 in diagram)

which moves along horizontal rail mounted on bottom of window has disintegrated, but all will be obvious once you have view of that part of mechanism.

The whole door card will need to come off to repair regulator if that is the issue.

Great tip. Thanks.

I’ll try and pop that door card and investigate.
