Default I want some lighter wheels and tires!!!!

I have a set of 18" GTS replicas on my car. I bought them from Brent89GT here on rennlist because they were a good deal and I wanted some wider wheels for wider tires. They look great! They are heavy though. I swapped my drag radials and stock S4 wheels off this weekend to put the 18s back on and realized there is a substantial differece in weight. Again they look great but I need something lighter.

I want a set of light weight good looking wheels klike the ones Wild Bill. I would be torn between 17's and 18's. 17s' are more durable but 18's look beter. I would take either. Need 9.5" or 10" width in rear.

Anyboody have some wheels they want to trade? I have a lot of nice stuff to make 928s go fast.

Andy,

Get a set of Carrera Lightweight Wheels. The 18x10 are only 20lbs, and they are made by BBS. I am sure you can get a set on ebay..

Hello Blau,
I have the parts for you. I'll give you a call tomorrow.

I remember reading of your wheels lately. Do you speak of the same wheels above? Guess I'll find out tomorrow.
Thanks,
Andy K

If you can live with that the fronts are sticking out to much I've got set of super light Veloce GT1 wheels for sale. 31 kg's for the set, doesn't get any lighter than that if not using magnesium.

Anders,
I liked the looks of those wheels. Did you ever mount them? IIRC the offsets were not correct by quite a bit.

Nope, they are way to far out in the front.. Probably 15-20 mm's wrong. I might put them on my 944 though.. Or some 911 owner will be happy.

Anders,
I really want to do it right this time, with proper or manageable offsets.

Blau,
Are the wheels in this auction the ones you have? IIRC you have some spacers. I was going to ask of you recall the sizes of the spacers. What a silly question. I know no # escapes you.

I understand you Andy.. I have been thinking about if it would be possible to change the front hub of the car to make all sorts of 911-offset wheels fit.

The ET65 sure is annoying when one wants new wheels..

Hi Andy those are the wheels my car has. 996 Wheels
I run them with a few mods to the front suspension. The custom arms would cost you about $1000. This way they don't stick out. I own the program but dont want to make money from it. They look great and they provide great grip. Incidently I just bought a GT gearbox, with PSD and I will investigate the best way to get the power down. I'll let you know.

Greg,
IIRC, and maybe I don't because you know where my mind is, the later model cars do not need the suspension mod to get those wheels to work. Seems that Blau and Sth and 1other got them to work w/ the use of spacers. I love the look of them. BTW the Laminova IC is very heavy compared to a comporable sized bar and palte style IC. Off the top of my haed I woul say 3x to 4x as heavy for same flow rate. I think they offer around 3% more efficency. Have to find the worthwhile x over between weight/weight distribution and power.

Thanks,
Andy k

Andy:

The 18 Carrerras are just fine on my 89 GT. They are 8" fronts with 50MM offset and 10Rear with 65MM offsetl. I run a 17MM rear spacer (stock GT spacer, lucky for me) with 225 fronts and 285 rear tires. They are super light, easy to clean and easier to find. Right now Brumos has an add in Excellence for wheels and tires for 2495 NEW! An amazing deal. I paid almost that much for 200 miles used. I'm sure there are lots of sets to find for sale. Those 996 guys change wheels like others change shoes.

Good luck.

Hi Andy thanks for your input, so is what your saying about the intercoolers when you refer to bar type. Are these the ones you sent me the link to. From their description they sound very similiar to Laminova. That is in design and look versus the plate or radiator style. I agree you don't want to fill the car up with lead weights by any means. I would imagine that these other bar style intercoolers are cheaper than laminova too?

Hi Andy,

Yes, those are the wheels. I use a 1/4 inch spacer in the rear, and I know a 6mm or 7mm spacer will also work to clear the S4 fenders without ANY issues. I also use 285/30-18 rear, and the fronts are just bolt on direct.

Greg,

Bar and Plate is NO WAY SIMILAR TO THE Laminova Design. Look on the Laminova website, and you will see.

Andy,

FWIW, those cores can flow 125-150hp of airflow each... Yes, a bit heavier, so if you are balancing for weight, it may be an issue to the last gram. However, as your cores will be behind the front axle, it will not matter if you can make an extra .1 hp per # of weight added. 10:1 #/HP... More effectively, and extra 3% efficiency should give you this on a 450-500 hp car without any problems, provided your intake can flow the air without any pressure drop... Furthermore, what you will achieve, is a higher detonation threshold, and this is the MOST important with any boosted engine... Remember, "Heat is the enemy" the cause of detonation is absolutely linked to the intake charge temp, and density ratio.

Sorry to hijack the thread topic from wheels... I'll call you later to see about the parts you had cut for me on the water jet.. Can tell you more then..
