The former Swedish Formula 1 driver Reine Wisell has passed away at the age of 80. Reine Wisell competed with Ronnie Peterson but never reached the same level. Reine was born in the very same city I have lived in for fifty years. He died at his home in Thailand.

Tråkigt! En fantastisk ambassadör för Sverige och motorsport. F3 loppet i Monaco och fajten mot Ronnie där räknas som ett av F3 historiens största race.
🇸🇪 Tack Reine!

Translation: Sad! A fantastic ambassador for Sweden and motorsport. The F3 race in Monaco and the fight against Ronnie there is considered one of the biggest races in F3 history.
🇸🇪 Thank you Reine!
That's really sad. Me and my spouse just heard an amazing documentary on Radio P3 about Ronnie Pettersson. It included many good comments from Reine of course. Just a legend in swedish motor history. Great driver and great guy... R.I.P...
Reine Wisell was an incredibly talented driver. Back in 1969 my brother was the North American Distributor for both Brabham and Chevron cars. Both Chevron's and Brabham's Formula Continental cars were identical to its Formula 3 cars. For the 1969 season ending Formula Continental Championship race at Sebring my brother brought in former F3 Champions Reine to drive his latest Chevron B15 and Tim Schenken to drive his latest Brabham BT29 cars. Not only did Reine and Tim lap the entire pro field, but Reine beat Tim by 30 seconds. Colin Chapman was very impressed and hired Reine to drive a F1 Lotus a few months later.
