I'm taking my wife to Austin for her birthday. As part of the fun I am renting a Boxster. Can anybody familiar with that area recommend some fun/scenic driving roads?
Anywhere South West of Austin - even the road out of Austin is 85mph. Head for the Hill Country.
Go visit the wineries.

There are lots of great driving roads all over the area west of Austin. If you want a run fairly close to Austin, check out 2769 which follows the north shore of Lake Travis. If that's not enough, turn left at the end of that run, and find 1431, which continues West all the way to 281. Very scenic and great hills and curves.

all around wimberley....if you leave austin, head to dripping springs, then south to wimberley and just drive around. there are no bad roads. ....and it's the type of quaint, funky little town that women just love..look on the map for wimberley, kerrville, junction, bandera.....that area is rich with beautiful scenery...lots of farm to market roads with change in elevation and twists...and beware...you will be dealing with traffic anywhere within 15 miles of austin....
if you're going to be here for a few days, east texas has some roads that are good....dramatically different scenery. Nacodoches, Alto, San Augustine, Palestine,

Thanks Roger, Don, and Kevin for all the good suggestions! Lots to choose from. Should be a great time.
Wife will be doing most of the driving. She has a two door Bronco Badlands Sasquatch on order (for over a year now with no end in sight from our dealer). We will be attending a Bronco Off-Roadeo event in Horseshoe Bay, TX. She wants a Bronco but also was thinking of getting a Cayman instead. Thus the reason we rented a Boxster (no Caymans available during our time). This way she'll get back-to-back experiences in both vehicles and can decide what type she ultimately likes more. Two totally different vehicles so it'll be interesting to find out what she thinks.
My son just bought a 6 spd '09 Cayman here in Houston and I had it for a couple of weeks before he flew in to drive it back to Georgia where he lives. What a car, man, I had no idea. It is the base model, so not scary fast (265HP), but the handling and road feel is pure sports car. When you take a curve fast, it feels like it has no limits and will never lose traction due to the mid engine layout. I have a new appreciation for them, and they are rarer than the 928 (only a couple thousand built in 2009). No experience with Boxters, but they should be similar, maybe a little less HP.
There’s a really nice 3.4 mile loop just SE of downtown Austin.
As mentioned, Lime Creek Rd to 1431west is nice; consider some of the roads off 1431 like Cow Creek. You can continue West and South to Willow City Loop and back roads toward Fredericksburg.
Look at the FM (farm to market) roads leading out of Kerrville - tons of great roads in addition to the well known 335, 336, and 337.
A great resource is the Butler motorcycle maps and the online reference Rever - us motorcyclists are always looking for the twisty roads!
If you're staying in the Horseshoe Bay area, you are pretty much in the sweet spot. If you have a free evening, it might be worth the effort to wind way from the north side of Canyon Lake to New Braunfels. There's an old community area called Greune that has a restaurant in an old converted mill, on the river, that's pretty awesome. Super casual. It's called Grist Mill. 40 feet away is an old Beer Tavern that's been around forever. Gruene Hall. It's legit. Everyone who is anyone in country music has played there. https://austintravels.com/trips/gruene-hall-daytrip-to-this-timeless-texas-treasure/ I highly encourage you to make it part of your trip....I'm sure that any other Texans posting here will back me on this one.
