Howdy.
Here's a weird idea that may appeal to you if you are willing to take an unorthodox approach...
It would probably take a little time, but it may work.
Do a "historical"search on RL, but specifically go looking for "recently - inactive" RL 928 members whose cars seem like something you're interested in...
For example, search for posts from say 2-3 years ago and see if you can find an owner who was really active but has fallen off the radar...
That's how I found my car, I lurked here for about a year, and contacted a RL member who was thinking about selling, and he did.
It actually worked out great for me, he was a super nice guy who was very honest and helpful.
I knew exactly what I was getting!
Maybe you could catch a hibernating 928 owner who has lost interest, etc etc
I have often wonder how many hundreds of 928s are sitting in garages, partially disassembled and waiting.
LOL ! I personally know of one !!

Well, I actually took the plunge and bought the '84 Euro S. She's going to be a big project, for sure. I'm really busy with work right now, so it's going to be a while before I can dive into it, and even then, it'll be a long process due to limited time.

True, but if you watch the scene where Gary shows up at the mall to pick Lisa up in the 928, you can clearly see the "GARY" vanity plate on it as he does the burnout and squeals away.

Need to buff out the paint and see where we are at. Or maybe better strategy to repair and repaint and blend obvious problem areas, then buff out? Not looking for perfection until I get mechanicals sorted out. That would probably require a complete respray. And I don't want a garage queen that I'm afraid to drive (fast is implied). On the fence about wheels as-is, or do I powder coat black or some dark shade of gray? They are 18" Fikse.

Some popped off paint and surface rust peeking out from under the rear spoiler (hopefully not a complete _ _ _ _show under the spoiler), and some spots in a couple areas around the sunroof. Then a foot-long keying on driver's side door (why are 911 people so insecure?!), etc.

Three Wheelin'
Ed,
as already mentioned we are downsizing home , we bought a small one and sold our little "castle". Maintenance became a job.... besides the garage for wifeys car i will have room for 2 fun cars.... so had to sell some.
928 is sold meanwhile , just as my BMW850 and Morgan.
For sale now is my regularity rally BMW E9 2800CS , but i want to keep the race/rally 928 for rallies later on....
And i bought a Cobra , something i'm dreaming of the past 10 years.... had to do it once and see what it gives ( will replace the Morgan for sunny trips )

You guys all speechless after seeing pics of my '84? Can't believe that I listened to all your great advice and then still decided to purchase such a basket case? You're probably right, but I just felt like I might be kicking myself in a couple years if I passed on a twin distributor car at this price point. I know, I know, the cheapest Porsche is always the most expensive Porsche. . . but you know, I don't believe I've ever seen a Brink's armored van in a funeral procession?

It looks pretty good! Let's see some engine and interior shots too. Love the wheels. Also, I would definitely buff it out before deciding to do any paint work. I think these black ones are single stage paint, and if so, you'll be amazed at how they clean up with careful buffing and polishing. At the very least, it will allow you to focus better on the areas that might need a repaint.

Thanks Ed, and sorry for the slow responses. Very busy at work lately! Here's a pic under the hood I took last night. I'll spare you the interior, as it's an absolute mess. Headliner needs to be completely ripped out and thrown away, as probably do the pieces that cover the rear wheels as well. The fiberboard is all warped and deformed. Probably going to need replacement door panels too, as they're deformed, some previous owner tried to screw them together (WTF?!), etc. Center console pieces are pretty rough, and seats (regular, not sport) look to have been recovered with some decent looking vinyl in the past (but not installed all that well) but also need to be replaced. I think the seats themselves are in pretty good condition. Carpets are in pretty decent shape. Interior is that sort of burgundy, or maybe a "wine" type of color. Thanks for the compliment on the wheels. They are 18" forged Fikse, FM10, I believe.

It's hard to beat an 84-86 Euro S 5-speed. Looks like a great baseline to work from. How does it run and shift? I also have an 84 Euro S 5-speed in black. A bonus on yours (and mine) is that it looks like it escaped the wrath of federalization where after market side markers are usually installed (along with the accompanying holes cut into the fenders), and still has the H4 headlights instead of sealed beam units. Does it have the original 2 in 2 out front muffler, or have cats been spliced in? Get the mechanicals up to snuff (replace all rubber fuel lines, including the 8 short pieces to each injector, as first order of business, if not done already), polish the paint, and then look after the interior. Share some pics of the interior details, don't be afraid! A search for some of my threads will show some of the things I have dealt with over the past 10+ rears of ownership, including an engine out refresh including head gaskets, and a gearbox R&R to address shifting issues.
I will be following your progress.
