Oh man, I'm really sorry to hear that I feel bad because I recommended them as an option. They worked out for me, but I must have gotten lucky. I hope that you got your money back via the credit card company!
oh it's all good, definitely not your fault. glad you got yours! thanks for all your data/info; hopefully a reliable supplier is found. i just wanted to give the next guy/gal a heads up...
Searching for high output contour alternators will yield results. You could also just call local alternator shops until you find one that will make a high output version. Which was my plan C
But even a basic contour alternator from rock auto will be a big upgrade over the stock bosch alternator.
when you refer to using a "basic contour alternator", do you know if these are drop-in replacements, or do they need component swapping? i picked up my 928 today from an interior shop where it was over the winter. they didnt leave it on a trickle charger...i got the car to jump, and had to ride the throttle the whole way home. if it stalled out, even after running for 15 minutes, it wouldnt start on the battery's power. not sure if they toasted this 2021 Optima battery, or if I have an issue with the rebuilt alternator. having a hard time finding any type of drop in replacement alternator...thanks for the help.

Has anyone on this forum bought one of these 200A remanufactured alternators from this company in Cali that advertises on Ebay (no affiliation)?
They have been selling these for as long as I can remember (since I owned my first 928, 20 years ago).
It just sounds too good to be true (as in snake oil) so I never gave it a second look.
Glad to help. I assume you ordered it with the right case.
The shimming is easy in practice. Mount it and make sure everything is straight and square. Add shims as needed. Use a rule or straight edge to make sure the belt is straight.
If you feel like it's not generating enough current at idle, you can always go with the Powermaster 115 pulley, which is 49mm.
Let us know how it goes and feel free to drop me a line if I can help.
When I put this alternator on my car I did not need any shims under the pully and it lined up perfect. I ordered the Lester case and got all the parts from the online place. You only need the longer belt because the pully on the ford alternator is larger than the Bosch, If there was a smaller pully you would not need a different belt. My car is an 89
IMO, take your time and worry less about a different alternator and instead invest in some Dexoxit, wire brush and ultra fine sandpaper and go stem to stern and clean and polish all grounds and positive connections. If you notice some green areas or anything suspect use you money to buy new factory replacement. The results will surprise you, not just in power/amperage output but in gauge and sensor function….something a $1000 alternator won’t change unless they are getting good clean contact. Just my two cents.
