FINALLY, I have all of the various wiring demons worked out (I think). Distributor is aligned properly with new spark plug leads, Green wire wired in correctly, etc.I checked all of the relays and cleaned all of the ground points, made sure there is fuel...
Car will start, but with feathering of the accelerator - as soon as I let off of the gas, it dies. It seems to be running pretty rich, as I push down on the gas pedal it starts to sputter and belch (not quite backfire).
No gas smell - but I realized that I had the vacuum lines to the throttle body (the 2 small ones on the back) switched...
Now starts right up and idles.
THANK YOU for your help and patience.
Now just have to tune it up/adjust timing/etc. - as it runs pretty rough (but it runs!)
After new properly gapped plugs, the car starts and idles great. Unfortunately, as I accelerate, the engine bogs down and sputters - usually around 4000 rpm. Acceleration is smooth up until then (in all gears)
I set the timing to 23deg BTDC @ 3000 rpm with both vacuum lines disconnected and plugged. If I plug the red one and leave the black plugged, the car sputters and wants to backfire under load and will not accelerate (however rough) past about 3800 rpm (in any gear). Its very similar (and maybe a hair worse) if the black line is plugged in as well. Could the vacuum advance be bad? How do I check it?
Acceleration is smooth without load on the engine.
The Air Flow Meter (barn door) was just rebuilt and calibrated, though I don't know how the set adjustment screw is/was. Could that be something I need to adjust?
Here are the other connections. After researching, it seems that the distributor line should go to the right (passenger) side connection, but the car will not start. As soon as I switch them, the car starts and idles. Still with the sputtering at high rpms and under load
