Default front console for 81 ?

Can you add the front console to a 1981 ?
As it is, it is just carpet, but I notice the newer models have a thin console.
Doesn't look like it holds much, but I would like to add one if possible and it would look original....
any thoughts ?

I think your talking about the cassette holder?

Should be able to add it as long as the mounting tabs are under the carpet.

I'll bet it's that package shelf.

Sounds like the cassette holder to me.

There are 4 raised mounting points which are spot welded onto the central hump. You can probably feel them under the carpet, just cut a small circle around them. There are slide-on type clips which go on the body mounts.

My cassette holder looks like it was installed at the dealer, the carpet and rubber insulation was just hacked out, in uneven oval shapes.

I tried to replace the carpet pieces using carpet tape and carpet from under the back seats when I removed the cassette holder:

Default cassette ?

okay, must be the cassette holder. It goes between the two seats on the hump, has a door...
