Default Woodypeck

Greetings, all!

Looking to upgrade my headlights and stumbled upon Woodypeck.com. In researching the company, the last posts I found are a few years old and not very favorable. Has anyone purchased anything from this company in the recent past? If so, how was your experience...specifically, Customer service, product delivery and satisfaction? TIA

They were great... up until they werent.

Basically from their statements I've read here and on FB they had a massive system crash and lost everyone's contact/order info; which I know can happen to anyone.

They also didn't refund those that never got their orders; which is why so many got heated about it.

They went MIA for a while and seem to have come back a year or 2 ago.

After they came back things seem to be alright but their reputation is irreparably damaged in the community.

Choice is yours, however I would opt for H4 headlights in place of your factory H5s. They are significantly better and won't blind oncoming traffic like a brighter bulb in an H5 housing will.

Ya...you really wanna get H4s, you can make H5s work well, with any amount of light.

I ordered something small about a month ago. Shipping was a bit slow, but the item arrived within a couple of weeks and was 'spot on'. Communications were good about the delay, and secondarily, the first shipment being lost by Royal Post.

I ordered a variety of bulbs from Woodypeck about 6 years ago, well before the previously mentioned system crash. Shipping was very slow (weeks if not months), and communication is inconsistent. Some of the parts I received were not appropriate for my car and not returnable. The products themselves were very generic and easily source-able from many other suppliers that have better product options, faster delivery, and better return policies.

I will say that Woodypeck has some good information about what works on 928's and that has some value, but that same information is also contained within the cumulative knowledge of list members that will share for free.

LED Bulbs the technology is changing/improving rapidly. I feel the products on Woodypeck's site are outdated. There are far better and less expensive options available elsewhere. This is especially true for interior lights, you can often find different color temperatures to match the color of incandescent bulbs (warm white) vs the traditional blue/white light of fist gen LED.

Back to your question on LED headlight bulbs. Your MY89 928 has the 8" H5 headlamps. For the H5 lights, the common consensus is the lens is weakest link and limits good clear light projection. It is recommended to start by replacing the headlights with H4 or at least swap the lenses with H4 lenses (928srus.com). As @Speedtoys points out. The H5 headlights don't offer good light projection, and adding a brighter bulb doesn't really help with nighttime visibility. Do some research on rennlist and decide for yourself. In any event when searching for LED bulbs for either H4 or H5, I'd recommend going to Amazon and look for a Prime vendor that sells the brightest thing you can find that has the filaments in the right spots. These
Philips Philips
used to be the gold standard (I had these on my '88) but now there are a bunch of vendors that are offering improved packing and outputs at a fraction of the cost. Here a is
set set
I purchased after I tried about six versions (for my '92). They are half the cost and 25% brighter and after 6 months I am still very happy. There are probably better newer versions by now as well (do some experimenting).

Beyond headlights, consider https://www.superbrightleds.com/ as a good resource for replacing other bulbs. There are plenty of good write-ups on just about every bulb you need. Or feel free to PM me up for questions as I just did this on my '92 as well as my '88. Or start a new thread for some diverse points of view.

If you get H4 bulbs..I have been SUPER happy with these over the last 4yrs.

Amazon Amazon

The yellow really helps me see better..and the white for the high beams or lows..is really intense as well.

And they sit in the bulb well, I get the proper patterns.
