i was browsing some of the rear hatch lock threads, but couldn’t find trying that matched my issue.
The rear hatch on my ‘83 928s could not be unlocked without crawling into the trunk and pushing the white tongue back with a screwdriver. I removed the whole upper half of the latch mechanism to see if I could diagnose the problem.
i think the issue is with the blade which is supposed to articulate between 9:00 and 12:00 and therefore depress and real ease the white tongue. Somehow the tongue keeps popping out of the hold that the blade has over it.
even when I have fixed the tumbler in place with the tiny screw (and it seems pretty obvious how the tumbler should be placed - a few different things line up), the blade still has too much articulation, and just barely keeps the tongue depressed, a slight juggle can release the tongue.
has anyone encountered a similar issue?
thanks!

When the lid is fitted to that part it should limit the travel of the tongue so it can't avoid the blade.
Or, was the tongue replaced, maybe an alarm version was installed which I think it's a bit thinner.
