Someone really needs to figure out a plug and play MAF conversion like the 944 owners have.
Aside from that, it is probably a failing O2 sensor as noted above.
Easiest way to check the AFM or the O2 sensor is to unplug one and start the car, it it runs better after you do that, you have found the culprit.
