seems bogged down until 2k rpm
when accelerating in any gear, my engine seems bogged down until 2k rpm, it may actually start pulling harder a little before 2k, but i just haven't payed attention that closely. any way, it's not like it's running "bad" it just doesn't begin to REALLY pull hard until then. even in first gear.
any ideas?
thanks in advance, also does anyone know where i could find a 928 haynes manual at? i looked at autozone where i got my 944 haynes, but they didn't have it, not to my surprise...

yep
I test drove an 83 Euro auto (the facts: my first 928 test drive and first "sports car" auto test drive --- SO I really had no idea how to drive the darn thing) a little over a year ago and found myself almost unimpressed with the low end performance.
Granted, I didn't get on it or try and score any launch records, but I expected more.
I bought an 84 US spec car and it seems to have a lot more lower end.... which seems to hold true with what I hear that the Euro's get into the torque band later in the rpm range.
...maybe that is what you are seeing?

Might want to check the vacuum advance lines to make sure there are no leaks. Ignition timing being off could also cause bad acceleration until the centrifugal advance kicks in.
Haynes doesn't make a 928 manual. There is one made by Chiltons but it is just about worthless. The only decent literature is the factory service manuals. They are a 9 volume set when complete for all years. There are some 6 volume sets on Ebay but beware of them as they don't normally have all the updates.

My experience is that that's the way it is. The engine has a torque peak around 4500 rpm. Below 2000 there's nothing. Not good for stoplight starts, but plenty fun. Just move the up-shift point to 5500 rpm or better and you'll have a great time.
