New tires and size suggestions for '94 GTS
I want to get some new tires next week and am looking for some suggestions.
I have a '94 GTS with stock size Cup wheels, 7.5 x 17 front and 9 x 17 rear. The front tires are BFG's 245/45 x 17 (not stock size 225/45 x 17) and the rears are stock size Dunlop SP 8000's 255/40 x 17's.
No clearance problems on the front. Do anyone have any thoughts as to going a bit wider/bigger on the rears. I don't want the speedo to be affected.
Should I go back to the stock 225/45's on the front? The car handles great with the present setup, it's just that the rears are down to the wear bars and I would like a complete matched set of tires. I was thinking Michelin's or Yokohama's
Thanks in advance

You can search my user name etc. for a ton of wheel and tire info, I've done a lot of research. Same for lagavulin. I run 225 front with 50mm offset on 8 wheels and 285 rear on 10 wheels in the rear with a 48 offset in the rear with no problems at all.

Thanks for the info.
I will post some interior pics as soon as I get my digital camera back tomorrow. The interior is cashmere beige, code LG, Porsche crest embossed in the headrest, black carpet with new black Lloyds mats from 928 Specialists, embossed with 928 GTS in yellow.
The brake calipers are yellow powder coated new stock units, with new cross-drilled stock rotors.

Hi Seth W.
Does the GT have rolled front fender?
I have 7" wide 17" Porsche 55mm offset fronts and
they are hugging the stock S4 front wings.
Didn't think 50mm offset would work.
Am I mistaken again.
Would love 245 wide front tires without going to
the mega$$$ custom 3 piece wheels.

Hi Bill,
How about 255/35 front and 295/30 rears :-)
Rears are 25" tall and do not effect the speedo.
Photo is of Greg Schickel's Kick-A$$ GTS with the K28R wheels and S-03s we got for him.
I know those tires won't fit your wheels, I just love the way Greg's GTS looks!

I am running 245 35 18's on an 8.5 inch cup 2 rim with a 52 offset on the nose......It looks like a steam roller from the front, but is balanced because the rears are 275 35 18's on a 10" rim with a 47 offset. I removed the stock 20mm spacer that comes on the 89 GT. She likes to follow the bumps a bit.....but she is gluded to the road......at any speed. And she needed the extra rubber 'cause of the lung job.....
I tried the 255 40 17's on a 9" cup 2 with a 55 offset on the nose, they rubbed.......
DR, THAT is rubber optimization man.....wow.

gretch, i wonder if theres much between the profiles, 40 series vs 35. would this make a difference?
Dr - WOW! what is the finish on the rim centres?? the only thing that puts me off going for a custom wheel is the thought of bending it, but looking at this pic has made me reconsider!!

Hi Nick,
>Dr - WOW! what is the finish on the rim centres??
Standard shot-penned Anodized Finish, Tough as NAILS!!
> the only thing that puts me off going for a custom wheel is the thought of bending it,
You need to rethink that a little, if you damage a 1-piece wheel it is pretty much trash (or a wall clock) and it has to be replaced. Depending on the wheel cost it will range from $250-500 or higher.
If you damage a 3-piece wheel you simply have the inner or outer rim half replaced, cost typically ranges from $200-300.
Of course if the damage is slight and doesn't warrant replacement then the repair cost would probably be the same for both types.
>but looking at this pic has made me reconsider!!
It is a nice shot of a 928.
Here is a closer shot of the wheel with the standard finish, although it is a little darker in person than what this photo shows.

Chuck,
I say that if you like the 245's you currently have, why drop down to 225's?
Or, you can do like I typically do and say to hell with conventional wisdom. I just stuffed these 19's on the ole shark. They are 997 Carrera Classics.

Hi Randy,
SWEET!!
I have waffling back and forth about doing 19s on my Euro for a while. I was planning to do 19 x 9s witth 255/30-19s on the front and 19 x 11s with 305 (or 315)/25-19s on the rear for testing purposes as we are getting a lot of requests for 19s. I think you just pushed me over the edge!! :-)

That GTS looks absolutely super with those Kinesis wheels.
And the 19" Carrera wheels are the first 19" I have seen on a 928.
Looks great, what ET front and rear are those?
Cheers/Peter
