Ha. Good story. Southern Florida, drug smuggling, money laundering, expensive Porsches...sounds like a movie. I came across this article where the interviewed Bob from prison on the 10th anniversary of the sinkhole eating his 928:
Looking back, Govern said his Porsche was more trouble than it was worth. In fact, he had trouble driving the car home from the paint shop a few months after the sinkhole opened. "Do you know that the thing broke down right in front of the sinkhole?" Govern said. "Unbelievable."
Interesting stuff. This guy did predate that movie by a year or so... perhaps this story was part of the creative process. I have Family in Winter Park. I may have driven by it.

Guy seemed very motivated to get the car back. Perhaps there was something hidden in it? But What and Where? My understanding is that back then cars were modified for mule duty but the 928 just doesn't have the right profile or enough voids to be useful in that role.
