Help
I am hoping for some new test points or ideas. My 1986.5 will not stay running. I have replaced both engine wiring harnesses and all of the major relays, fuel filter and still the same problem. The engine runs for 5 or 10 minutes then shuts down as if the key was turned. no sputtering, no loss of power nothing just shuts off. It will restart and run for maybe a minute. Let it sit for an hour or so and it will do this all over again. Feels like a heat problem some where in the ignition. I can't find it. Any ideas are welcome! Thanks!

See if it stays running with the MAF unplugged.
Immediately after it turns off.... does the fuel pump still run for 3 seconds or so?
I'd try tapping or just replacing the flywheel sensor in the top of the bell housing in either case. It might just be as old as the car.
Was the engine ever out? Gounds?

Has an intake refresh ever been done post a picture of the engine bay from your post it sounds like the CPS has developed an intermittent fault

Yes, The intake was refreshed with a new MAF. Yes the fuel pump keeps running for about 3 seconds. I will double check the crank position sensor. When the engine runs it runs well. I will post pics shortly.
Thanks

Also, it's not terribly complex to pull the ignition switch enough to spray its electrical contacts.

Thats a very tidy engine bay ,
Roger sells new TPS short harnesses, verify the CPS is Bosch if not replace with Bosch CPS and inspect the CPS connector

You have some good people already offering advice. It would be helpful to know who did the work, what was changed out and what was left as is, etc. You said there is a new MAF (assume whoever rehabbed it tested it), so it could be CPS, TPS, ISV, clogged fuel line, EZK or ignition wiring, LH, etc.
Vital signs would also be helpful. Is it intermittent or constant, temp and RPM when the failure occurs, does it happen only at idle or under power, in motion or at rest, can you keep the engine running by keeping your foot on the gas pedal, etc.
Also a quick suggestion: Since this thread will hopefully become part of the archive, a more descriptive title would be assist with future users' search.
Once at a 928 event an attendee had a failure similar to this that was due to an internally corroded catalytic converter. None of us had ever heard of such a thing. So more detail is better!
